My journey with the Dream Inspiration Centre sponsorship program spans a remarkable 11 years, a pivotal period that transformed my life in ways I could never have imagined. It all began when I was just 12 years old, a wide-eyed 6th grader navigating the vibrant yet challenging community of Mathare. Meeting Max and Teresa, guided by the beacon of hope that is Moses from the Dream Inspiration Centre, marked the turning point. Their unwavering support paved the way for me through primary school, high school, and finally, the gates of University, where I recently proudly graduated with a degree in Mass Communication and Journalism. Reflecting on this journey, I realize that I stand today as a testament to the incredible power of belief and opportunity. In a place where dreams often seem confined by circumstance, I dared to dream big—larger than life itself. The program didn't just offer an education; it ignited a fire within me, encouraging me to envision a future where the sky was never the limit. Now, I stand shoulder to shoulder with my peers in the workplace, equipped with the same opportunities and potential. The program didn't just provide an education; it instilled in me the courage to dream and the tools to turn those dreams into reality. My heart overflows with gratitude towards the individuals who extended their hand to me, granting me a chance at a brighter future. I am humbled by this experience, and my excitement knows no bounds as I look forward to witnessing other children, like me, seize the best that life has to offer. Thank you feels inadequate for the immeasurable gift you've given me—the gift of belief, education, and endless possibilities. My name is Esther Otieno, I am one of the two Director of Communications at Dream Inspiration Academy. I am a testament to the transformative power of education. Raised in the challenging environment of Mathare slum, my journey is marked by resilience, determination and hope. I defied the odds through the support of Inspiration Centre. Sponsored through primary school, high school, and university, I not only graduated with a degree in media and communication but also gained spiritual nourishment, social networks and empowerment. Graduating with a degree in Media and Communication was equally important as overcoming adversity that led me to found my passion in the field that now defines my professional trajectory. My profound gratitude for the multifaceted support I received fuels my commitment to fostering a similar holistic development for others at Inspiration Academy, where I passionately utilize my skills to communicate and inspire positive change. Today, as the Director of Communications, I embody the spirit of empowerment and inspire others to reach their potential, illustrating how education can break barriers and create lasting impact.
